Eclipse Season Is Back: Your Guide to August 2026

August hands us two eclipses in one month, so let's talk about what that actually means and how to move through it without spiraling.

What Is an Eclipse, Really

A solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes directly between the Sun and Earth, briefly blocking the Sun's light. A lunar eclipse happens when Earth passes between the Sun and Moon, casting its shadow across the Moon instead. Solar eclipses always show up near a new moon, and lunar eclipses always show up near a full moon, which is why they tend to arrive in pairs about two weeks apart, exactly like this month.

Spiritually, eclipses have a reputation for being intense, and that reputation is earned. They tend to accelerate whatever is already in motion in your life. Think of a regular new or full moon as a gentle nudge and an eclipse as that same nudge with a double espresso in it.

Solar Eclipse in Leo, August 12

This one is a total solar eclipse landing in Leo, the sign connected to identity, creativity, and self expression. New beginnings tend to cluster around this date, especially ones tied to who you are becoming rather than what you are doing. You might feel a sudden pull to start something, speak up about something, or stop shrinking yourself to fit somewhere you have outgrown.

Do not be surprised if the days around August 12 feel a little louder than usual, emotionally or energetically. That is the eclipse doing its job.

Lunar Eclipse in Pisces, August 27

Two weeks later, we get a partial lunar eclipse in Pisces, the sign connected to intuition, emotion, and release. Where the solar eclipse plants a seed, the lunar eclipse tends to bring something to a close. This is the one that surfaces feelings you have been sitting on, relationships that have quietly run their course, or truths you already knew but had not said out loud yet.

Pisces also softens the edges a bit. Expect this eclipse to feel more like a wave than a lightning bolt, something that moves through you rather than at you.

How to Work With Eclipse Energy

Give yourself extra grace. Eclipses can bring out big feelings, sudden clarity, or a short fuse. None of that means something is wrong with you. It just means the cosmic volume is turned up.

Journal before and after each date. Try this prompt for the solar eclipse: what part of me is ready to be seen? And this one for the lunar eclipse: what am I finally ready to release? Writing it down helps the shift land instead of just spinning around in your head.

Cleanse your space. A simple smoke cleanse, a sound bath with a singing bowl, or even just opening a window and airing out a room can help clear stagnant energy before and after each eclipse.

Hold off on major decisions. Traditional astrology advises against signing contracts, starting new relationships, or making big irreversible choices in the days right around an eclipse. Let the initial wave settle before you act.

Support your body. Eclipse weeks can be tiring, both eclipses fall two weeks apart, so give yourself extra rest, water, and quiet time if you can.

Crystals for Eclipse Season

For the solar eclipse: Citrine or sunstone, to support confidence and help new intentions take root.

For the lunar eclipse: Moonstone or labradorite, to support intuition and make releasing old patterns feel a little softer.

For the whole stretch: Black tourmaline or smoky quartz, to stay grounded while the energy swings between beginnings and endings.

A Simple Eclipse Ritual

Light a candle. Take a few slow breaths. For the solar eclipse, write one sentence about who you are choosing to become and tuck it somewhere you will see it often. For the lunar eclipse, write one sentence about what you are letting go of, then safely burn or tear up the paper as a small physical release. You do not need anything fancy for this to work. Intention is the whole point.
