Reiki & Energy Healing Myths

Myth: If you feel nothing during a session, it isn't working.

Nope. Energy work isn't always dramatic. Some people feel heat or tingling, some people just fall asleep and drool a little (no judgment, it happens). Feeling “nothing” often just means your nervous system finally got the memo to relax. The work is still happening, it's just not putting on a show for you.

Myth: Reiki can replace medical treatment.

Reiki is wonderful for relaxation, stress relief, and supporting your body's own healing response, but it isn't a substitute for a doctor, medication, or actual medical care. Think of it as a good teammate, not the whole team.

Myth: Reiki only works if the practitioner is very “powerful” or advanced.

Reiki isn't a strength contest. A newly certified practitioner channels the same energy as someone who's been doing it for twenty years. Experience helps with things like reading the room and holding space, but it doesn't change what's actually flowing through the session.

Myth: Reiki has to be done in person to work.

Distance Reiki isn't a workaround, it's a whole recognized practice of its own. Energy isn't limited by geography any more than your phone signal is. If in person feels more comfortable for you that's totally valid, but remote sessions aren't the lesser version.

Myth: You'll know instantly if Reiki "worked."

Sometimes the shift shows up that night in how well you sleep, or two days later when you realize you handled something stressful without spiraling. Healing doesn't always announce itself the second you sit up off the table.

Myth: Practitioners are taking on your pain or bad energy when they work on you.

This idea gets repeated a lot and it's not really how it works. A trained practitioner isn't a sponge soaking up your stress, they're more like a clear channel. That's also why good practitioners ground and clear themselves after sessions, as a habit, not because they're purging something they absorbed from you.

Myth: You need to "believe hard enough" for it to work.

Effort and belief aren't the mechanism here. Showing up and lying down is most of the job. Overthinking whether you're believing correctly usually just gets in the way of relaxing, which is the part that actually matters.

Myth: One session will fix a problem you've had for years.

A single session can feel wonderful, but expecting one hour to undo a decade of built up stress or an old pattern is setting yourself up to feel let down. Reiki tends to work more like a habit than a fix, small and consistent rather than one dramatic reset.

Want me to add these into the Word doc and Post 1 section, or keep them separate in case you want to swap a few out?

Reading about Reiki myths is fun, but lying down and feeling it for yourself is better.
