There are certain things we count on without even thinking about them. A night light is one of those things. It is not the main source of light in the room. It is the steady glow that tells you where you are when everything else goes dark. You do not notice it until it is gone.

The pendulum said the night light is going out.

In the current political climate, a lot of what has functioned as our night light is flickering. The institutions, norms, and agreements that held things in place are under pressure. Some are already dim. The presence of checks and balances, a free press, the assumption that certain lines simply would not be crossed is no longer something we can take for granted.

We did not think we needed to protect it because it was always just there. That was the mistake.

The Adaptation card message shows flexibility and resourcefulness are being called forward right now. The beetle survives because it does not wait for conditions to return to what they once were. It reads the environment as it actually is and moves accordingly.

That is the energy available to us right now, if we choose to use it.

Adapting means staying clear-headed and functional while you figure out your next move. It means taking an honest look at what has changed, what has been lost, and what still needs protecting. And then it means doing something with that awareness rather than turning away from it.

The night light going out is a signal. Something that once provided quiet guidance and stability is no longer reliable. That is not a small thing. Noticing it matters. Naming it matters. And deciding what you are going to do with that knowledge matters most of all.

You have more resources than you think. More strength, more community, more capacity for creative response than the current climate wants you to believe. The beetle does not wait to be told the environment has changed. It already knows. And so do you.

Pay attention to what is flickering. Then decide what you are going to do about it.
