Clearing Limiting Beliefs Series

Inner Child Healing

A lot of the limiting beliefs we've explored in this series have something in common. They formed early. A small person in a big situation absorbed a message about the world, about other people, or about themselves, and that message got filed away as truth. And some part of you is still running on that old file.

That's what inner child work is really about, recognizing that there are younger versions of you still influencing how you respond, still looking for the safety, the validation, or the love they didn't fully receive at the time.

When you get disproportionately activated by something, when a small trigger creates a very big feeling, that's usually a sign that a younger part of you is involved. The reaction is coming from then, not from now. And that younger part doesn't need logic. It doesn't need to be convinced or corrected. It needs to be acknowledged.

This is slow, gentle work. It's not about reliving difficult experiences. It's about offering a little compassion to the part of you that formed these beliefs in the first place. The part that did the best it could with what it had. That deserves some kindness.

You can parent yourself in the ways you needed and didn't fully receive.

Reflection:

Think of a belief that feels particularly old or deep-rooted. How old do you feel when it's active? What did that younger version of you need at the time that they might not have gotten?

Simple Practice:

When a strong reaction or old belief surfaces this week, try speaking to it as if you were speaking to a child. Something like: I understand you're scared. I've got you. We're safe right now. You don't have to do this perfectly. Let it be simple and genuine. Even a few seconds of this can shift something.

One Minute Meditation

Meet Your Inner Child

Take a breath in, and let it out slow.

Picture yourself at seven years old, standing right in front of you. Notice what they're wearing. Notice their eyes.

Breathe in, and say to them: I see you.

Breathe out, and say: You are safe now.

Ask them silently, what did you decide was true about you back then, that isn't true anymore?

Let the answer surface, even if it's just a feeling, not words.

Breathe in, and picture that old belief as a small stone in their hand.

Breathe out, and watch them set it down.

Take their hand. Tell them, we don't need that one anymore.

One more breath in, feel warmth spreading through your chest.

One more breath out, and open your eyes when you're ready.

That belief was never yours to keep. It was just borrowed, and now it's returned.
