The Empath Who Feels It In Their Body
Last week we kicked off our empath series by talking about emotional empaths, the people who absorb the feelings of those around them as if those feelings were their own. This week we are diving into the Physical Empath, and honestly this one surprises a lot of people when they first hear about it.
Physical empaths don't just pick up on emotions. They feel other people's physical experiences in their own body. Sit next to someone with a migraine and suddenly your head is pounding. Stand near someone with chronic back pain and feel an ache you cannot explain. Walk into a hospital or doctor's office and leave feeling exhausted, heavy, or just plain off even though nothing happened to you. Sound familiar?
This type of empathy can be one of the trickiest to navigate because it is so easy to mistake someone else's physical experience for your own. Physical empaths often spend a lot of time at doctors trying to figure out symptoms that appear out of nowhere and disappear just as quickly. If that resonates with you, it is worth starting to notice whether your unexplained physical feelings are connected to the people or places around you.
The good news is that the same tools that help emotional empaths also help physical empaths. Grounding, energy clearing, and conscious boundaries all make a difference. One additional practice that works really well for physical empaths is a quick body scan before and after spending time with others. Just take a breath, check in with how your body feels, and notice what has changed. Awareness is always the first step.
Next week we are looking at the Intuitive Empath, and if you have ever just known something without knowing how you knew it, you are going to want to stick around.
