A Breath, a Pause, a Reset

You already know how to do this. You've been breathing your whole life. Today, you're just going to pay attention to it for a few minutes.

Find a comfortable seat. Let your hands rest in your lap.

Take a breath in through your nose for a count of four.

Hold it for a count of four.

Release it through your mouth for a count of six.

Pause for two counts before you breathe in again.

That's it. That's the whole practice.

As you repeat this cycle, notice your shoulders dropping. Notice your jaw unclenching. Notice that nothing is required of you right now except this breath, and then this one, and then this one.

If your mind wanders, no problem. Come back to the count.

Four in. Hold for four. Six out. Two pause.

Stay here as long as you like. When you're ready, let your breathing return to its natural rhythm. Carry this slowness with you into whatever comes next.

Your nervous system thanks you.
