Chakras

Myth: Chakras are ancient, unchanging, and everyone agrees on what they mean.

Chakra systems have shifted a lot over centuries and across traditions, and even now different teachers describe them differently. There's no single official rulebook. So if your idea of the heart chakra doesn't match some Instagram infographic, you're not doing it wrong, you're just working with a living tradition instead of a fixed formula.

Myth: You have exactly seven chakras and that's it.

The seven chakra model is the most popular one in the West, but it's a simplified version of much older, more detailed systems that include dozens of energy centers. Seven is a great place to start, it's just not the whole map.

Myth: A "blocked" chakra means something is permanently wrong with you.

Blocks come and go the same way tension in your shoulders comes and goes. Stress, a rough week, or even bad sleep can throw things off. It's not a diagnosis, it's more like weather. It shifts.

Myth: Every chakra has one correct color, and using the wrong crystal ruins the whole thing.

The rainbow chakra chart is a helpful memory tool, not a law of physics. Energy work is not a paint by numbers kit. If you grab a crystal because it called to you and it doesn't technically match the chart, your energy work still counts. The universe is not running quality control on your color choices.

Myth: Chakras are religious, so if you're not part of that religion, they're not for you.

Chakras come out of Hindu and Buddhist traditions and it's worth respecting and learning about that history. But you don't have to subscribe to a specific belief system to notice that your body holds tension in certain spots, or that certain practices help you feel more grounded and clear. Curiosity is allowed.

Myth: The lower chakras are basic and the upper chakras are where the real spiritual growth happens.

This one turns your energy system into a popularity contest and honestly your root chakra deserves better. Feeling safe, stable, and grounded is not the beginner level before you graduate to the "real" spiritual stuff. It's the foundation the rest of it stands on. A wobbly foundation makes everything above it wobbly too.

Myth: Once you clear a chakra, it stays cleared forever.

Chakras are not a chore list you check off once. They respond to your life, your stress, your sleep, your week from absolute hell. Clearing and balancing is more like brushing your teeth than defusing a bomb. You do it, it helps, and then you do it again because that's how maintenance works.

Myth: You need to be gifted, certified, or "chosen" to work with your own chakras.

Nobody needs a permission slip to pay attention to their own energy. You already do intuitive chakra work every time you notice your stomach in knots before a hard conversation or your chest feel tight when you're holding something in. That awareness is the practice. The fancy terminology just gives it a name.
